Gala Dinner

Westgate Hall

19.00 – 23.00

Please join us on Friday 6th September for the conference Gala Dinner. The evening will take place in Westgate Hall, an early twentieth century former drill hall in the heart of Canterbury. The ticket covers a three-course sharing platters and buffet dinner (all vegetarian/vegan), and two bottles of wine per table. There will be a pay bar at the venue.

Canterbury Cathedral

A guided tour around this remarkable Gothic edifice, now part of the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 597AD on the command of Pope Gregory by St Augustine, the complex has been expanded, destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries.  Highlights include the fan vaulted cross tower, 55m long Quire, royal tombs and mediaeval stained glass. Led by official cathedral guides the tour, in groups of 15, will focus on the architectural history of the site and will last 90 minutes. 

Meet at the main entrance to the cathedral at 10am on Thursday 5th September.

 St Augustine’s Abbey

A guided tour around the ruins of this Romanesque Abbey, also founded by St Augustine in 597AD to convert the English back to Christianity after the collapse of Roman rule. The tour includes the museum and the former Victorian St Augustine’s College, designed by William Butterfield in the 1840s. Led by an English Heritage tour guide in groups of 20, the tour lasts one hour. 

Meet at the main entrance at 10.30am on Thursday 5th September.

Cost £12.50 (please note, booking on this site reserves your place, but you will need to pay the venue directly at the start of the tour)

 Canterbury: a walk towards, on and around the walls

A walking tour starting from the modernist University for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, originally opened in 1971 as Canterbury College of Art. The tour hugs the city wall and will take in Dane John Gardens and the Castle. It will then continue along the river before diving into the city itself with some of its more interesting buildings. Led by architect Daniel Stilwell of Charles Holland Architects, the tour lasts 90 minutes.

Meet at the main entrance of UCA Canterbury main campus at 10.30am on Thursday 5th September.
